To launch Celtx in the application folder just click Celtx in Mac. If you are using Windows then just click on the start menu and you will find it in the ‘Programs’
Once you have it open you will want to start a new project. You can create different kinds of text objects in Celtx for example a scene heading. By default if you enter a scene heading it appears in the lower left corner of the screen, in the scenes area. The next text you enter after that will be just regular text.
If you are typing regular text and you want a new line if you press the ‘TAB’ key, it will automatically assume that you are creating a character name. After that when you press ‘ENTER’ any text you enter will be the dialogue. Every time you press ‘ENTER’ the software will assume you want to include another character and more dialogue.
When you press ‘ENTER’ on a blank line it will assume you want to be entering a new scene heading. Most people find this navigation really easy to understand and much easier than pressing function keys to change between different types of text.
Obviously if you select any text that you previously created, then from the list of tools at the top of the screen you can specify that you want it to be something different. For example you can select a scene heading convert it to regular text and the convert it back to a scene heading.
If you are done typing text for the day, just go ahead and choose ‘FILE’ then ‘Save Project’. It will allow you to save the file. By default I like to keep all my scripts on the desktop, but a lot of people like to keep them in folders.
