Celtx Script Writing Software

April 10th, 2010
To launch Celtx in the application folder just click Celtx in Mac. If you are using Windows then just click on the start menu and you will find it in the ‘Programs’
Once you have it open you will want to start a new project. You can create different kinds of text objects in Celtx for example a scene heading. By default if you enter a scene heading it appears in the lower left corner of the screen, in the scenes area. The next text you enter after that will be just regular text.
If you are typing regular text and you want a new line if you press the ‘TAB’ key, it will automatically assume that you are creating a character name. After that when you press ‘ENTER’ any text you enter will be the dialogue. Every time you press ‘ENTER’ the software will assume you want to include another character and more dialogue.
When you press ‘ENTER’ on a blank line it will assume you want to be entering a new scene heading. Most people find this navigation really easy to understand and much easier than pressing function keys to change between different types of text.
Obviously if you select any text that you previously created, then from the list of tools at the top of the screen you can specify that you want it to be something different. For example you can select a scene heading convert it to regular text and the convert it back to a scene heading.
If you are done typing text for the day, just go ahead and choose ‘FILE’ then ‘Save Project’. It will allow you to save the file. By default I like to keep all my scripts on the desktop, but a lot of people like to keep them in folders.

How To Write A Screenplay

January 30th, 2010

Did you ever have a great idea for a movie, maybe about your family or you had a great idea that you think would make a great movie, but you just do not know where to start. You are not alone most people do too.

The first challenge is how to put it on paper, how to write the screenplay. Well today you are going to learn the basic steps putting you on the road to becoming a movie writer. I am going to give you the basic steps to writing but to make a good script really great, you may want to contact a professional movie and screen play writer.

They can provide consulting services, may assess your script, they can co-write the script with you or they can write the script for you. They can show you how to write a script or do it for you from the begining to the end.

To get started you need some thick pencils and a notepad or screen writing software.

Screenplay – The Fade In

The fade in is the beginning of your script, it is not required every single time but it is recommended for all the different scripts. So what you want to do is open a

blank template, using your screen writing software. It is going to be justified completely to the left just like it is an action script.

So with your complete 1005 blank screen, just go ahead and type the words all in caps ‘FADE IN’, then a colon : followed by one press of the ‘ENTER’ button. Just like that you have started your first scene.

FADE IN :

This is actually your fade from black to start the movie completely, and ofcourse at the end of the movie you are going to do a fade out.

So this is your fade in, again from the top same font size, same everything justified completely to the left just like it is an action script. Just like that you have started your first script.

Writing A TV Script

January 30th, 2010

So how do you write a TV script? I recommend treating a TV script like any other scripts, whether it be feature films, short film or whatever. They are all screenplays and so to change anything about your format or style just because you know it is going to be for television, is a mistake.

One thing that people often notice about television is that the quality seems to be substantially lower than that of films. This is largely because they shoot on a much faster schedule, this is expected so that’s no reason why you should at least aim for high quality when you first start of.

So when you writing a television script, keep in mind that it has to fit in certain parameters this is going to affect your writing style. You are going to want to divide it up by acts, really because you know that at some points there is going to be commercial breaks.

Start by listing

“Episode Name”

ACT ONE…

and then go straight into the action, just like any other script. Describe where we are. Describe the action as concisely as possible, then go right into the dialogue. Follow that format from there. The only real thing that you need to keep in mind as you write a television script that is of high quality is that you gotta kind of keep in mind exactly that it has to fit into a certain time frame, and it has to have different breaks, for the commercials.

But other than that it is just another screenplay, and that is exactly how you should treat it. It should be, just the same quality as a feature film. That is how to write a successful television script.
